Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) · Science
light and sound
Pupils learn about waves, including transverse and longitudinal waves, properties such as wavelength, frequency and amplitude, and how light and sound are transferred and detected. They study reflection, refraction, the electromagnetic spectrum, shadows, hearing and pitch and investigate wave speed and wave interactions. Practical skills include measuring waves, ray diagrams for mirrors and lenses, and analysing oscillations.
