Elements, atoms and compounds
Pupils learn about elements, atoms and compounds, understanding atomic structure, symbols, simple formulae, chemical equations and the difference between elements, mixtures and compounds. They practise representing atoms and molecules, writing formulae for common compounds and separating mixtures using physical methods. Skills include interpreting simple chemical tests and constructing word and symbol equations.
