Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) · Languages

Translation

Pupils practise translating short texts both into and out of the target language, developing strategies such as sense‑for‑sense rendering, recognising false friends, using cognates, and analysing grammar and word order differences to preserve meaning and register. Tasks focus on identifying key structures, transferring vocabulary accurately and reflecting nuance while avoiding literal calques. Translation supports grammar awareness and reading comprehension skills.
