Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) · Languages

Culture

Pupils explore cultural knowledge to develop intercultural understanding, learning about traditions, festivals, everyday life, geography and customs of countries where the language is spoken, and comparing similarities and differences with their own culture. They study authentic materials, cultural behaviours and basic historical or social contexts to appreciate perspective, identity and appropriateness of language use. Cultural awareness supports communicative competence and motivation.
