Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) · English & literacy
Shakespeare
Pupils encounter Shakespeare's language, themes and dramatic techniques, learning to analyse iambic pentameter and verse versus prose, characterisation, soliloquy and stagecraft, and to interpret archaic vocabulary and figurative language in context. They practise reading aloud, making textual inferences, and connecting historical and social context to meaning while using terms like tragic hero, comic relief and aside.
