Reading non-fiction
Pupils study a range of non-fiction texts to develop skills in identifying purpose, audience and form, analysing structure, evaluating argument and using evidence, and understanding bias, tone and rhetorical devices such as statistics, anecdotes and rhetorical questions. They practise summarising, comparing viewpoints and synthesising information across sources while using terms like register, bias and primary/secondary source.
