Key Stage 1 (Years 1–2) · English & literacy

Writing composition

Pupils learn to plan and write simple narratives and non‑chronological texts, sequence sentences coherently, use basic organising devices and develop vocabulary for description; key skills include composing sentences, using capital letters and full stops, and beginning to use conjunctions like and, but and because. They practise editing and improving their writing for clarity and purpose.
