Key Stage 1 (Years 1–2) · English & literacy
Phonics and decoding
Pupils learn to recognise letter sounds and blend them to read words, practise segmenting for spelling, and apply phoneme–grapheme correspondences through activities on single sounds, digraphs and simple CVC and CVCC patterns. They develop decoding strategies, read common exception words and build fluency and confidence with pace and accuracy.
