Pupils learn correct letter formation, consistent size and spacing, joining where appropriate, and how to sit and hold a writing implement with good posture; skills include forming lower‑ and upper‑case letters, writing on the line and developing legible, fluent letter shapes. Progress is linked to fine motor control and practise of joins as pupils move towards a joined style.
