Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6) · English & literacy
Vocabulary, grammar and punctuation
Pupils expand vocabulary, learn grammar terminology and sentence structure, and apply punctuation accurately, including commas, apostrophes, speech marks, and sentence demarcation; they study word classes such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs, and practise complex and compound sentences. Emphasis is on applying these features in writing and recognising them in reading.
