Reading non-fiction
Pupils study a range of modern and historical non-fiction to understand purpose, audience, form and argument, analysing tone, bias, rhetoric, structural features and use of evidence; they compare texts, evaluate reliability, and practise synthesising information across sources. They learn terms such as rhetorical question, bias, register and formal/informal tone while developing skills in inference and summary.
