Analytical writing and terminology
Pupils refine analytical writing skills, learning to structure essays, craft topic sentences, incorporate quotations, use critical terminology (metaphor, simile, motif, juxtaposition, tone) and develop sustained, coherent arguments with textual evidence and analysis rather than summary; they practise paragraphing, signal phrases and using subject-appropriate vocabulary to strengthen evaluations.
