GCSE (Years 10–11) · English & literacy
Reading fiction
Pupils explore how writers create narrative effects in fiction, analysing characterisation, narrative viewpoint, structure and language choices such as imagery, tone and pacing; they learn to infer meaning, track shifts in perspective and evaluate writer intention and reader response. They practise close textual analysis and supporting interpretations with quotations and terminology like first person, free indirect discourse and unreliable narrator.
